|||Once again, St. Lucia has been crowned as the Caribbean’s leading honeymoon destination according to the judging panel at the World Travel Awards (WTA). But this isn’t the first time St. Lucia has come out on top—the small Caribbean nation has received the highly-regarded accolade eight out of nine years since 2009.
The 24th annual awards ceremony was scheduled to take place on September 16, but was cancelled due to the damage caused by Hurricane Irma. While the awards organizers and tourism board representatives shared their condolences, they were also quick to point out that the Caribbean is still open for business.
Tourism is a key industry in much of the Caribbean—and St. Lucia is no exception. The country was also nominated for Leading Cruise Destination and Luxury Island Destination and nine other St. Lucian resorts and tour operators were finalists in their categories.
