Tourism numbers to St. Lucia are growing according to a recently released report from the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). In fact, St. Lucia enjoyed the second-fastest growth in the region among CTO member countries, second only to Bermuda.

Specifically, St. Lucia saw an increase of 9.2% in stayover arrivals from 2016 and an 11.4% increase in August alone—the third consecutive month the country enjoyed double digit increases.

More than 20,000 cruise ship passengers arrived on the island in August alone—a 6.3% increase from last year.

St. Lucia was also recently named the Caribbean’s leading honeymoon destination.

While it remains to be seen whether the increase in numbers will carry over into the fourth quarter, things are looking good. St. Lucia was one of the few Caribbean nations that wasn’t hard-hit by the unusually ferocious 2017 hurricane season. While neighbouring countries like Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis are still reeling and rebuilding from the destruction, for St. Lucia it’s been business as usual.

In fact, several new developments have recently opened, or are about to open on the island. The Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa recently opened 455 rooms across two hotels, while Serenity Villas at Coconut Bay Resort recently unveiled 36 new luxury villas. Harbour Club is scheduled to open in the winter of 2018 and the Bel Jou Hotel is expected to reopen in November after undergoing significant renovations.

The strength of the tourism sector is also good news for those considering St. Lucia’s citizenship by investment program. As tourism is a major industry on the island, a thriving sector means a stronger economy which ultimately leads to better infrastructure and services for every citizen—both new and existing.

St. Lucia’s citizenship by investment program is one of the most economical for a single applicant. Fees start at just US $100,000 for a single occupant, which is one of the most reasonably priced options for Caribbean programs.
